How to write a love letter to your daughter

As hard as I try, my words always fail me. You have always been an amazing brother. But I knew that one day, you will grow up and want to explore that dangerous world I wished to protect you from. In the simplest of terms, I love you, but there is nothing simple about my feelings. I will always be here to guide you and to give you advice when you need it. To my daughter who is now a mother. On the day you were born, not only was a baby brought into the world but also a parent who would fight tooth and nail to bring you the best life possible. You're like a sponge. As a helpless little baby, I did everything I could to make sure you had everything you needed. You wonder if you are being heard. You will always be my baby girl, and I will always be there when you need me.

Every star…every night…feels the echo of that wish. To my dear daughter.

You are my inspiration, my joy, my wonder, my dance partner, my sidekick, my adventurer, my scientist, my teacher, my guru, my alarm clock, my movie buddy, my cheerleader, my artist, my inventor, my comfort, my caffeine, my confidant, my goofball, my coach, and my heart. I know I have learned a lot raising you and I know I will continue to learn.

My dear daughter, in this life you will face challenges that you have never faced before.

I didn't know that would happen so soon. Letters are such a personal gift, and you can only give them to people who really mean a lot to you.

If you'd like my blog posts delivered via email each Friday, just enter your address below and you'll be signed up! Thank you for being patient with me and for accepting my apologies with grace when I haven't been patient with you. You challenge me in so many ways and you teach me about things I never knew I'd be interested in. My baby girl, I want you to know that no one in this world can love you like I do. And as you venture out and carve a name for yourself in this world, just know that I am always here for you. You have shown me what love really is. It is a tradition I plan to repeat every year and give to them when they are grown. Depend on no one but your own wits to achieve what you want in this world. I want you to know that being a mother is incredibly difficult, but not because caring for a baby is hard, but because of the constant fear that something might hurt your little girl. It is my desire for them to know how much they are loved.
